Webcomic Creation – Settling on a Process

I’m amazed at the creators out there who just start a webcomic who don’t seem to go through this laborious process that I have. At least I don’t find creators posting much about their decisions. There are so many ways to do a webcomic! How do you decide which way is best?

    1. Story – do you write it all up front like a short story/novel, page it out, storyboard it, or even just get the thing started and finish writing as you publish pages?

  1. Website – do you use a hosting service like Tapas, DeviantArt, Tumblr, or use your own website with a theme of your choosing like Comic Press?
  2. Art – what medium do you use, like pencil or pen and black & white or color, and traditional or digital or both?
  3. Text – what style word balloons and font do you use, like your computer built-ins or purchase your own?
  4. Size – do you do American, Manga, or some other standard comic size?
  5. Layout – do you create with print in mind or just screen, meaning do you create in landscape or portrait and 72dpi, 150dpi, 300dpi, or even 600dpi?

These are the things I’ve been mulling over and experimenting with. Below are three styles of art that I’m deciding among. I think I’m going with finished pencils using all digital, although I like the results and process of each of them. I think I will still get to do the other styles and colors, too, for covers and pin ups. I’ll be doing all digital with the iPad Pro and the app Procreate.
